Jan 26th 2010 Tube Amp
Over the years, there has been general consensus that tube (or valve) amplifiers produce better sounds as compared to than of solid state amps. Basically a tube amp refers to a kind of guitar amplifier that functions through valves or vacuum tubes as an alternative to transistors. As compared to the sound produced by a solid state amp, the sound that at tube amp produces is warmer and fuller.
The choices for tube amps can range from really cheap ones to tube amps that are really expensive. Thus, it is important to carefully choose the kind of tube amp to use. There are instances wherein a reasonably priced tube amp sounds better or just the same as that of an expensive tube amp. There are several considerations to make when choosing a tube amp.
For instance, it is necessary to take note of the kind of music you play. This will decide the amount of gain that the amps should be capable of. Gain refers to distortion. Basically, the idea is for players who play “clean” music, gain amount of the amp does not really count because there’s hardly distortion in the music itself. This is just one consideration. The tube amp you choose should well match the music you make.
