Welding equipment is extremely expensive for all companies these days. It is important to use and close them down in a proper method to ensure that the life of welding equipment lasts a little longer and it works better. If you leave the welder running for an indefinite period of time, the central constituents would wear off much faster than you expect. There will not be any prominent damage initially but it can get out of hand if not monitored properly. Shut down the shielding gas bottle valve first and foremost. The next step would be to turn off the welder altogether. Clean off the dust, dirt and debris by blowing out the welding machine.
Attempt to expand the lead of the welder and loosely enfold the lead around the lead holder. If there is any problem with the equipment at this stage then inform your supervisor. Detach the ground clap and scrutinize it for any damage. Tighten the loosened bolts and analyze the grounding cable for any signs of visible or abrasive damage. Envelope the grounding wire around the welding machine and put it aside. If this method is used to shut down the machine, it would work for a longer duration of time and work better as well.
